Where is The Glampervan Hire Company based?

We are based in Whitstable, approximately 6 miles from Canterbury on the A299 however our vans can be collected from EKFT, Hernhill, Faversham, Kent ME13 9EN.

What form’s of ID can you accept

In order to cover a driver on our insurance we must receive copies of driving licences and address verification prior to collection of the campervan. If we do not receive these a minimum of 1 week in advance, regrettably we may have to cancel your hire.

From the 1st of June 2015 the DVLA will no longer issue paper driving licenses and driving history will be checked online using the DVLA website. Unfortunately we are unable to do this for you, you must check it online and share the information using the DVLA license check website. Please click the link and follow the on screen instructions. You will need your Driving License number and National Insurance number to do so.

Please either send us the code, valid for 72 hours and we will check online, or save the information and email to us with all the information below.

Additionally we need copies of the following:

    • Driving licence photo-card (if old style licence with no photo-card, we can accept this but we will require another form of photographic ID, such as a passport to support it.)
    • 2 forms of address ID from the list below:
    1. Utility bill (Water, gas, electric or land line phone bill)
    2. Bank statement
    3. Mortgage statement or rental contract
    4. Council tax bill

(These must confirm the address your booking is made in, drivers name and be dated within 3 months of your hire)

We are able to accept online copies of bills and bank statements if you do not receive postal copies, but a date must be visible in the screenshot.

Please send copies of the above to insurance@theglampervanhirecompany.com and quote your booking reference in the subject field.

On the day of collection, please bring your driving licence.  All drivers will also need to sign a copy of the hire agreement and therefore must be present at the point of collection. If a driver is unable to be present on collection, please contact us a minimum of one week prior of collection to discuss alternative arrangements.

Why is there a mileage limit?

We have a mileage limit of 100 miles per day, included in the cost of your hire. Any additional miles will be charged at 15 pence per mile.

All our girls are classic vehicles and not like driving a modern car, it is great fun and you will get lots of smiles and waves, but you will have to concentrate on your driving and you have a top speed of 55-60 miles per hour, which obviously means a journey will take longer than in a modern car.

The reason we set a mileage limit is so that you do not try and travel too far for your comfort and safety and in order that you do not try and push our girls too hard and end up causing problems in the short or long term. We want all our customers to have a great time away and it is therefore important that they are used sensibly!

Also, don’t forget your collection and return times; you don’t want to be too far away on the first night and setting up in the dark or again on the last night meaning a very early start to get back for 10am.

How does the Security deposit work

We are required by our insurers to take a security deposit, this is to cover the excess on the insurance policy as well as being a damage deposit for the campervan while on hire. Without this deposit we are unable to insure you.

We will invoice you for the security deposit a week in advance of your collection and it is payable a minimum of one day prior to collection of the campervan. The deposit is payable as a pre-authorisation on a credit or debit card, or via Bank Transfer. It will be refunded within seven working days of your return of the campervan as long as it is undamaged, with a clean interior, and with a full fuel tank, as on collection. (subject to our full terms and conditions).

In the case where there is damage to the campervan, the Security Deposit will be retained during the quote period and until the repair work is completed.

The security deposit is £500, but subject to change dependent on points and age if outside of our standard terms. If you are not 25 to 75, a UK licence holder or have more than 6 points on your licence, please contact us for full details on the security deposit amount.

Can I come to see the campers?

We are proud of our campers and you are very welcome to come and view them, but please do call us before you come – just to make sure that the campervan you are interested in is available to show you.

What are your opening hours?

The office is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm for handling enquiries via email and phone.  We will endeavour to answer your call immediately, but we may be with a customer or under a campervan so if you do have to leave a message we will get back to as soon as we possibly can.

These are our office hours and not necessarily the times the premises are open, so please do pre-arrange with us if you wish to come and view the campers.

Do you deliver the campers or should we collect?

Yes, we can deliver the campers to within a 20 mile radius of ME13 9EN.

There is a charge for delivery, please contact us for a quote.

Can we leave our car with you whilst we’re away with the camper?

Yes, the majority of hirers leave their own car.  Our gated premises are secured out of hours with additional security over the weekend and bank holidays.

This service is free of charge but entirely at your own risk.

Can you meet me at the train station / airport?

We are happy to arrange this with you.  This may be charged depending on which train station / airport you would like to be collected from.  If you are arriving into Whitstable or Faversham, we are happy to collect you for less than a local taxi will charge if we have the resources available.

What time do we collect / return the camper?

Collection is between 12 noon and 4pm Monday to Saturday and campers must be returned to us by 10am, unless by prior arrangement. If you wish to collect at a different time, you must arrange this with us in advance or we may not be able to accommodate you.

Out of peak season and wherever we can, we are happy to be more flexible with collection/ return times. Please contact us if you require alternative collection/return times and we will do our best to help you. There may be an additional charge for this.

Please note, we are unable to accept collections after dark, as we require the light to safely orientate you around the camper and all it’s facilities.  Hand overs will take approximately 1 hour, so please allow for this when planning your collection/ journey.

If you are returning your camper on a Sunday or bank holiday, we are not able to do all return checks immediately.  We will carry these out as soon as is reasonably possible, usually the following day.

What age do I have to be to rent a campervan?

Drivers must be aged between 25 and 75, held their license for 2 years with no more than 6 points with a £500 security deposit during your hire period. 23 year olds are also insurable with a £750 security deposit.

Can more than one of our party drive the camper?

Yes, one named driver is included in the cost of the hire, but additional drivers can be added from £5 per day.

Up to three different people can be named drivers on one hire. We will need to see all drivers’ driving licences and 2 utility bills for each driver.

Can we travel abroad?

Yes, there is a surcharge of £16 per day for travel into Europe to cover the cost of a green card for the campervan and breakdown cover required.

Please check with us before booking a van to take abroad as some of our vans may not be suitable for long distances.

How do I make a booking?

  1. Check availability
  2. Once you have checked your chosen van is available, select your dates and follow instructions online, including payment of the non-refundable deposit or give us a call and we will making the booking for you.
  3. We will then send you a booking confirmation email, which tells you about the camper and your hire, together with a receipt for your payment which will also let you know the due date of any balance payable.

If necessary, we will contact you the week preceding your hire to make any final arrangements with you.

What is the booking deposit required?

To secure a reservation we require a non-refundable deposit of 25% of the cost of your hire, with the balance due 6 weeks prior to the reservation start date.

If you are hiring within 6 weeks of making the booking we require the full balance to secure the booking.

Is insurance included in the hire charge?

Yes, the hire charges we state always include UK  based insurance for one named driver.

You must be:

  • A full UK resident
  • Aged 25-75
  • Have held your licence for a minimum of 2 years
  • No more than 6 points on your licence
  • Have no convictions or endorsements on their licence.

I have points on my driving licence, is it still ok for me to hire?

Yes, you can still drive a one of our campers, although there can be surcharges from £3 per day for those with driving penalties – please telephone us on 0800 035 3454 for a quote.

I have a non-UK driving licence, can I still hire a Glampervan?

Yes, if you have a non-UK driving licence you can still hire a camper, we can insure the following licences without any charge:

United Kingdom

Southern Ireland



Hong Kong (if previously held a UK licence)

New Zealand

South Africa


Other countries may have an additional excess to pay.  Please check on booking.



Are personal belongings covered by the insurance?

No, the insurance provided within the hire charges does not cover you for loss/damage/theft to or of possessions and so we recommend you take holiday/travel insurance to cover this.

Are pets allowed in the campers?

We are happy to allow dog travel in most of our campers. We do ask that a blanket (provided) is used to protect the upholstery at all times and that the dog is not left in the camper unattended. There is room on the floor of the camper for a dog bed.

We charge £30 for pets, to cover any additional cleaning required.

What do we need to bring with us for the hire?

Please ensure you bring your photo-card driving licence for all the named drivers to be checked on collection.

We will provide everything you need for a fantastic camping experience. The campers are fully equipped with crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, etc.  We can provide you sleeping bags for adults or children or duvets sets at a charge, please see our glam extras page for full details. All duvets and pillows are duck featherdown.

Do we need to book a campsite in advance?

We would advise that you book your campsites in advance during the peak season and school holidays, particularly if you would electric hook-up which will enable you to use all the camper facilities to their full advantage. We can recommend local sites for your first night or full stay.

What type of fuel does the camper take?

All our campers run on unleaded petrol.

How is the cooker fuelled?

The camper is supplied with a Camping gaz or Butane gas bottle which fuels the cooker and hob – this is included within the hire charge.

Can we take our bikes with us?

Yes. Bike racks can be hired for an additional cost. Please see our Glam Extras page for full details.

Can the campers take baby / child car-seats?

Yes. Each van is fitted with modern seatbelts to the front and rear seats, see the individual van specs for information on number and type of seatbelts in each van.

What happens if the vehicle should break down?

You have full roadside assistance cover from the RAC. This means that assistance is available wherever you go, 24 hours around the clock. Each camper comes with an RAC card with a 24 hour telephone number on it. On collection of the camper we will also provide you with a telephone number to reach us on outside of office hours.
